The obvious dedication of the teaching team and the apparent delight of pupils as captured by the video clips are a joy to hold. Music does bring people together.
My remit as the school's first volunteer accountant is to observe how all things financial are being carried out at present. Bearing in mind various funders' financial reporting requirements and the availability of resources on site (human and otherwise), I shall design a financial system that is fit for the purpose of financial self-awareness as well as a pre-requisite for application for further (and much needed) funding for the survival and expansion of the school.
Once the design has passed testing stages and declared acceptable by the school management, I shall have the pleasure of teaching music teachers to do book-keeping, hmmm...
The school's year-end is 30 September. The proof of my first pudding would be the availability of the management accounts for 11 months to 31 August 2013 by the time I leave the school on 15 September! I am hoping that these accounts will be set up by me but "owned and worked on" by the school's finance team.
